Dr. James Spencer is a native of St. Louis, Missouri and received his graduate degree from Stanford University followed by a medical degree from the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Columbia University in New York City. He completed a residency in dermatology at Columbia University and a fellowship in Mohs Microscopic Surgery at the University of Tennessee with Rex Amonette, MD

 

Dr. Spencer has been assistant professor and director of Mohs surgery at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine and associate professor and vice chairman of the Department of Dermatology at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York. His current rank is Professor of Clinical Dermatology at Mount Sinai. He also maintains a private practice in St. Petersburg, Florida. Dr. Spencer is past president of the American Society for Cosmetic Dermatology and Aesthetic Surgery, is past president of the Florida Society of Dermatology and Dermatologic Surgery, past president of the Florida Society for Dermatologic Surgery,  past Co-Chairman for the National Council for Skin Cancer Prevention, and is a past member of the Board of Directors of the American Academy of Dermatology.

 

Dr. Spencer is past co-editor in chief of the Journal of Drugs in Dermatology as well as on the editorial boards of Dermatologic Surgery, Aesthetic Buyers Guide, The Journal of Clinical and Aesthetic Dermatology, and Contemporary Dermatology. He has previously been editor in chief of the journal Cosmetic Dermatology. Dr. Spencer has presented at numerous national and international symposia and has coedited 1 book, authored and co-authored 14 book chapters, and over 100 medical papers.
